The Big Picture
TLD: TOtal Low down
With an innovative cross-platform approach to storytelling and a pioneering director at its helm, Tinsel’s Town is as original as its titular character. And its origins are just as singular. There is SO much more to the project than the actual show.
For all the deets about the show’s unique beginning as a commercial TV pilot, through its evolution to a staged reading, then musical Soundcloud podcast, then online hit and finally to an all-star panel discussion on Ageism in Hollywood, click through the monograph below or just keep on scrollin’ for some of the basics!
TS: TOtally Soundcloud!
Before “Tinsel’s Town” premiered and anyone knew what Tinsel looked like, almost everyone knew what she sounded like. The character and the show were introduced via a musical Soundcloud podcast, THEME SONG THURSDAY, featuring Tinsel’s unique take on TV theme songs and jingles.
Why? Well, theme songs are sort of her thing. And as she says, “Theme songs ask super- important questions, like: ‘What would YOU do for a Klondike bar?’”

It all started with The Lullaby League, an original idea and then pilot on which “Tinsel’s Town” was based. The script eventually had a stage reading at LA’s Lee Strasberg Theater, which was directed by Tony nominee Michael Lindsay-Hogg (Agnes of God;, The Normal Heart; Who’s Life is it, Anyway).

As a rejoinder to the ageist and sexist response to The Lullaby League, Tinsel’s Town creator David C. Barry wrote and produced the sold-out panel Ageism in Hollywood, positing the problem of ageism as a diversity issue. The event received worldwide press in both print and TV media, with Deadline calling it:
“A long overdue conversation about an issue that has left so many talented actresses relegated to the sidelines because of a lack of opportunities.” - Deadline
